Un nouveau dossier de l’Institut Européen de Bioéthique (IEB) décrit le ‘modèle belge’ des soins de fin de vie qui, depuis 2002, entend développer ‘les soins palliatifs pour tous’, tout en autorisant la pratique de l’euthanasie sous certaines conditions. Treize ans après l’introduction de ce dispositif légal, deux opinions s’affrontent : l’une consiste à affirmer que la dépénalisation de l’euthanasie a véritablement permis le développement des ‘soins palliatifs et continus’, l’autre, à l’inverse, souligne que la banalisation de l’euthanasie phagocyte et dénature peu à peu la culture palliative, axée en principe sur l’accompagnement à la mort sans jamais la provoquer.
